Why some software companies fail in India

What is the greatest challenge for a person running a software company in india? The challenge is to run the company and run it with decent profits. I am talking about companies that have minimum employees around 100 or below. The golden rules are given below.

1. Saturday and sunday should be compulsory holidays. When you do this you will see that the leave taken during week days will be reduced DRASTICALLY
2. If in chennai, the basic salary should at least be 9,000 INR per month.
3. Give the salary before the 5th of the month.
4. General Holidays should be respected and leave should be declared on those days
5. USA and UK Laws cannot be followed in India.
6. On site for many people is outside India and hence while recruiting them tell that they will be required to travel
7. Explain to them the experience which they will gain in the company and how it can make big in a couple of years

Janani Janani - Thai Mookambikai - story behind the song

Ilayaraaja sir narrated this incident on sankara tv and that was the first time he shared this story with all of us.

When composing for the movie Thai mookambikai, ilayaraaja sir went to the pooja room and there was a photo of sri adi sankara. Ilayaraaja saw the photo and said "My guru, you have to compose this song for me" and then he left for the studio.

He composed the tune and kavignar vaali wrote the lyrics and some how ilayaraaja was not happy with the tune and he said he will compose one more tune. At first they had decided that Sri K J Yesudas will sing the song but later due to the tight schedule and change in the programme of K J Yesudas ilayaraaja himself had to sing the song.
Then he sat and composed this tune " tanana tananna" and everyone had tears in their eyes and kavignar vaali wrote the lyrics and the song was recorded.
The next day Ilayaraaja went to his pooja room and from somewhere a paper fell on him and he took it and saw it was sri adi sankarar's bhaja govindam. It is a genius of ilayaraaja that the metre of bhaja govindam and janani janani are the same.  (Ilayaraaja sings bhaja govindam in tune of Janani Janani)

A really superb story behind the song. thank god  THE MUSIC god sang the song...

Vaaliba Vaali 15th sep 2011 episode

Todays vaaliba vaali episode was hosted by Kavignar Nellai Jayantha and Violinist Padma Shankar. She is a disciple of Lalgudi Jayaraman. Her husband is TV/FILM actor ABHISHEK.

The episode revolved around the genius of ilayaraaja and the ragams which are in his songs. Vaali pointed out some interesting and important information.

1. Raaja never composed songs on raagams. The genius ilayaraaja is that he composed songs and finally they came in those raagas
2. In none of the songs raaja was crossed the grammar rules of raagas
3.Raaja has used the same raagams in two different genre

MALAYAMARUTHAM
Raaja has composed a duet number in this raaga and they played the song "Kannane nee vara kathu irudane" and actually the raaga was meant for some other purpose

REETHI GOWLAI  - there is no hindustani equivalent for reethi gowlai
Mrs. Sankar sang the Arohanam of the song and it was the song Chinna Kanna Azhaikiran and at that time Vaali said " Ilayaraaja is such a genius and who will dare to make a legend like Dr Balamurali Krishna sing in his 4 th movie itself and yes that shows the musicl genius of Ilayaraaja"

Silence prevailed - No wonder

KALYANI
Vaali said Raaja has composed around 60 songs in kalyani (where did he get the figure from) and out of it he has written 30 songs. To mention a few

1. Janani Janani

2. Amma enru
3. 2 songs from dalapathi: Yamunai Athrile and Sundari Kannal Oru seithi. Vaali said Yamunai athrile was written by him for the tune
This is when Kavignar Jayantha asked him if there were any musical words for writing in films. Vaali said yes there were specific words which should be used for writing in film music and yes he has used it.

Vaali said Raaja has composed so many songs in Hindolam

Vaaliba Vaali

Vaaliba Vaali is a programme that is aired on DD 5 Podigai on Thursdays between 21:00 Hrs and 21:30 hrs and the host is Nellai Jayantha along with a lady and of course our Kavignar Vaali is the guest. The show has been running for so many weeks but it is interesting now because it talks about Ilayaraaja and Vaali and how they worked together. till now it has reached till the year 1983

Some excerpts from the programme last week: This spoke about the association of AVM Productions, Ilayaraaja and Vaali

All songs of Sagalakalavallavan were written by Kavignar vaali and he said post many ir songs were written for the tune but in this movie there was an exception
TAMIZH LETTER AH SENTINMENT OF AVM
Amman koil kizhakkale - The pallavi lyrics were written first and then the tune was set to this. This is sentiment which AVM Chettiar had since the first thing in any movie should be only the tamizh first alphabet - AH. Thats why when Vjayanthimala picks up the phone in kalayana parisu she says AHALO :D

Ilamai Idho Idho - When vaali wrote the lyrics like this as Ilamai...idho ..idho..AVM Kumaran told him that the lyrics were very weak but vaali insisted to have them and said hear the song post raaja's full orchestration was added to this, No wonder the song became a super duper hit and raaja was launched into a higher pedestal. Vaali also said he had written about kamal too in that song. Hindilyum paduven....Naan dan sagalakalavallavan. He said Ilayaraaja is unbeatable in orchestration and some songs when written would look dull but actually when the orchestration was done they looked grand.

Nethu Yathiri Yemma and Nila kayuthu - He said both were excellent tunes and he spoke about working with the combination of SP Muthuraman, Panju Arunchalam and Ilayaraaja and how did the lyrics for Guru Sishyan and Veera.

PAYUM PULI

Pothukittu kottu dadi vanam - He said he wrote this song immediately after the song was composed. 

SURAKOTTAI SINGAKUTTY
The films initial name was singakutty and infact it was Kavignar vaali who told them to keep it as surakottai singakutti and finally all agreed and thus the movie name

Kaalidasan Kannadasan - When Kavignar Vaali wrote the lyrics "kannadasan" Ilayaraaja objected to it and he said the words just came out from his mind through his mouth and he said it was a great north south balance. He said we cannot replace those 2 words with any other poets name since they would not sync with the tune but finally the producer convinced Raaja and told him that contemporary itself is giving the lyrics and it can be accepted and hence the song was okayed.

Kavignar vaali then spoke of the special song Ayiram Malargale and how he and kavignar kannadasan used special words in many of his songs

HR - Harsh and Rash

This is about HR people and if you are a HR, take care.

The first thing which the HR thinks about his or her job is that he or she owns the company. They only know the specifications about the job but actually are never aware of what the job requires.

A factory owner shared his story with me. He was a high school drop out and never had a degree. He joined an automobile factory and learnt work for about 8 years and then when he started to apply for jobs, he was rejected because he did not have a degree. He knew everything about the job and he had the skills but a few pieces of paper were missing and he was rejected. He would have been a great asset to that company and many more but HR's failed to understand his talent

Their questions are always what is current ctc? Expected ctc? Notice period? Your marks?..99% of them ask the same questions

Dear HRs, there is much more to a job than degrees. Experience counts, Attitude and behavioral skills are also important. High time this is noted and people start to make a note of it
If this is done, no HR will come and say that there is talent shortage in this country

Which Labour officer can help them?

How many times have we traveled by road to places in tamilnadu or other states. On the way we would have had foods in some hotels and i want to talk about 2 characters, one the hotel watchman who takes care of the car parking and the other one is your taxi driver in case you travel by cab

I had a chance to speak to a highway hotel watchman some time back and his salary was just INR per month. The management did give him meals 3 times a day and also a place to stay but what could the person do with this amount of money. He has to stand in the HOT SUN most of times and see to that his clients park the car properly and also he takes of the hotels security. There are some kind hearted people who give them money, they must be 1 in 1000 people who give 5 INR as tips.

The next is the cab driver. He told me that he hailed from a very poor family and they could not afford him education. So he took a loan and learnt to drive a car and for years he has been a car driver. They have no rest many of the times. They will drop someone from a long trip and in the next couple of hours, they are ready to go again on a trip. These drivers are paid INR 7000 per month but they have a bad life style - a life where REST is bad word and you will be abused if you SLEEP.

There are rules laid down by the government of india for each type of employment especially regarding working conditions and working hours but No one follows it.

Emotions Vs Economics

I was sitting in the visitor's waiting hall of a popular travel agency for getting tickets to my first international trip. I heard the telephone operator telling a colleague of hers about the health condition of her child. The child was just 7 years and had high fever but both husband and wife had to come to office since their managers did not give them leave. It provoked my thought on what we working for Money or satisfaction?

At 42, the SAP INDIA Chief dies of heart attack and this is another incident which shook me. The man had enough money and he was the chief and he could decide his own schedule but why did he die at a such young age. Work Pressure? Too much of travel and hectic schedule?

Where are the values? Are corporates becoming more ruthless? Do companies lack the skill to deal with emotions. Do not give me examples of bigger corporations who might have a creche and also you can bring in your child when they are not well. I am talking about the companies where the majority of india works or where the Middle class works

We need to bring in strong morals and labour laws and until we do this the fight of Economics vs Emotions will continue

Rahul Gandhi: what is he and what he can do

Rahul Gandhi, yes the name says it all. The next prime minister of india!!!!! (this makes me wonder if india is a monarchy or a democracy)

Often we have seen him performing stunts like traveling with the security and then suddenly going off to catch a local train to andheri, suddenly stopping his car and interacting with the public and the recent one of traveling by bike on road. Rahul has now become more or less like a film star and with this he cannot get votes. Proved 100 % in Bihar and Tamilnadu

Rahul Gandhi has not commented about any of the scams like 2 G, CWG or Adarsh but he says he is ashamed to be an indian because mayavati land grabbing case.

With his visit to tamilnadu in 2010 and 2011, the congress proudly said that the party had about X Lakh youth enrolled themselves as members of the congress party. If that were true, where are the votes?

The BJP has no leaders in them and the infighting has also caught up with them and now we are left with the only choice of Rahul Gandhi.

Rahul Gandhi can utilize his popularity and the so called charisma and make the country clean. If at all he thinks congress has to rule in all states then he has to kick out all office bearers and bring in new people and the change needs to happen immediately

Until this is done Rahul's more cinematic gestures will continue and of course WITHOUT RESULTS
